# New Client: Alternative Strategies Advisors Have Been Missing

The alternative investment industry was designed by and for large institutions — not for individual investors and the advisors who serve them. [Western Alternative Strategies](https://westernalternativestrategies.com/) was founded to give that underserved market the access it deserves.
When a $5.5 billion, founder-led, independent multi-family office in Dallas needed access to sophisticated alternatives, and the market wasn't delivering, Western created what didn't exist. Chief Investment Officer Dhruv Maniktala explains: "We focus on institutional quality, lesser-known but time-tested ideas and managers — not the same bulge bracket names crowding the private wealth marketplace. We believe the edges worth finding are in less-trafficked corners of the market, where specialized managers operate and where scale is a constraint for larger managers."
